The Labyrinths of Grace Cathedral
San Francisco

New stone nave labyrinth installed Summer 2007.

Cindy has photographed events, celebrations, and open walks since their beginning in 1991 with a temporary painted canvas, then a wool tapestry rug, now the cut stone floor.

She occasionally presents at Grace After Hours and Veriditas events, projecting photos on to 30 foot hanging silk veils.

The final walk of the tapestry labyrinth with facilitators was on Summer Solstice Eve June 2007. The 40 foot rug was rolled and taken to storage.

Construction began immediately on the new stone floor labyrinth and continued over the summer.

The superlative stone labyrinth was officially welcomed and dedicated September 30, 2007.

The indoor Labyrinth at Grace Cathedral, San Francisco photographed from directly above, 100 feet up in the catwalks, a permanent indoor woven wool tapestry based on the 13th Century design laid in the floor of Chartres Cathedral near Paris, France.

The Labyrinths at Grace have inspired hundreds of labyrinths in the last 19 years in California, the Midwest, England, and around the world.

Grace After Hours is a program of live music by the nave labyrinth on the second Friday of every month from 6-8:30 pm. Composer/ keyboardist Martin Gregory has performed selections from his Labyrinth Walk CD several times. Pianist/composer Margie Adam also performs and both musicians invited Cindy to hang her silk veils from the mezzanine for image projection.

An outdoor terrazzo labyrinth was created in 1997 in the Grace Cathedral Close Interfaith Biblical Garden at east entrance. It is accessible 24/7.

WOMEN'S DREAM QUEST
overnight retreat in Grace Cathedral

An amazing workshop lead by Judith Tripp with a team of facilitators, musicians, artists, dream weavers, and cooks. Features open access to the Labyrinth and a multimedia show projected onto 50 foot hanging silk veils created by Cindy Pavlinac from her vast photo library. Images likely to appear throughout the evening include legacy labyrinths from France, England and Chartres, mystical megaliths and holy wells from Britain, goddess figures from travels and world museums, Black Madonnas from Meryemana Mother Mary's House in Turkey and French Labyrinth Cathedral Lady Chapels, and archetypal landscapes.

The Pavlinac Considerate Labyrinth Photography Philosophy: The experience of walking the labyrinth takes precedence over photos and must be respected. I started taking long time exposures with existing light on a discreet tripod to capture the feeling of contemplation evoked walking the labyrinth, without interrupting the experience with flash lighting or camera noises. People who walk slowly or stand still are more substantial and those who move quickly are ethereal blurs, sort of like life.

This Labyrinth design laid in the floor of Notre-Dame Cathedral Chartres, France c. AD 1201 during the initial construction of the new stone building.
